Unfortunate Events
A handful of unfortunate events piled up to make for a disappointing past week. I ordered an iPhone SE for $160 during a huge sale on Virgin Mobile at the beginning of May. The kind people on Slickdeals, a community website that posts sales, said there are online unlocking services for about $20 that would make the phone usable on the TMobile network. However, Apple and Sprint (Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint Network) patched their unlocking servers right when I received the phone. I had the phone physically on me but couldn’t use it; it was extremely frustrating. In the end, I had to pay $40 total and wait almost an entire month for to unlock the phone.
As I’ve mentioned in the past updates, I’ve been looking into buying an apartment. Well this past week, I put in an offer for an apartment. We saw the apartment right when it listed and tried to get in the offer right away. But the owner of the property was out of town and wouldn’t review offers until after the open house. There was a bidding war for the apartment and I didn’t win. It seemed like the accepted offer had more down payment secured or a higher offer price. It was a bit heartbreaking because it seemed like I finally found something decent in my price range.
But I guess it’s not all doom and gloom, I did get the iPhone unlocked and have enjoyed using it so far. Although it sucks getting outbid, I guess it’s not the end of the world. The offer I put in was close to the maximum I was willing to pay for the apartment. And I’m sure someone else will want to sell their amazing but reasonably priced apartment soon. How the Worlds Most Interesting Man Befriended the Worlds Most Powerful Man | Politico Magazine
An engrossing read by the former spokesman for Dos Equis beer. Although this is featured on a politics website, this story could have been from GQ, Playboy, or any other men’s culture magazine. I enjoyed reading about our former president, especially through the eyes of “the most interesting man in the world.”
How Anker is beating Apple and Samsung at their own accessory game | The Verge
I have an Anker SoundCore bluetooth speaker and PowerCore portable battery. I found both products through their high rankings on Amazon, so I guess their marketing strategy worked on me. Great read on the history of the company and how it rose to the top of the accessory market.
