What I Read:

Cooking at Home

This cookbook from David Chang makes a distinction between home and restaurant cooking. Home cooking aims to create delicious food in as little time as possible. You can forget about precise knife skills and fancy cooking methods.

With this goal in mind, the book challenges traditional wisdom. It’s a cookbook without traditional recipes. Instead, Chang offers brief descriptions of how to make the dishes. The book also includes sections on using your microwave to cook entire meals, why frozen vegetables and seafood are excellent choices, and how to utilize your freezer as a pantry.

I have successfully tried five recipes from the book. Most of them have been delicious. My wife and I devoured the fried donut recipe. There were a handful of things that will require more practice to perfect, such as braising chuck roast.

No You Can’t Have It All (Especially as a Parent)

I find this post timely as my wife and I are expecting our first child. However, the message of this piece is applicable to everyone. It’s about priorities and decision making. When you say ‘yes’ to one thing, you are saying ’no’ to everything else. Therefore, it’s wise to ensure that the things you say ‘yes’ to align with your values.

What I Heard:

IN-DEPTH: How to Master Change (with Brad Stulberg)

Cal Newport interviews author Brad Stulberg about his latest book in this episode. The conversation centers on change and how we might have the wrong mindset about it. Humans crave stability and change disrupts that. So we like to go back to how things were before the change. But Stulberg argues that’s the wrong approach. Where we land up after a change is often different from where we were before. Resisting those changes does more harm than good.

I was so fascinated by the conversation that I ended up buying the Stulberg’s new book.

What I Wrote:

Leon’s List - 2023 Week 1

The NFL season is kicking off today! As such, I’ve restarted Leon’s List. This newsletter provides insights into a shortlist of waiver wire players I’m considering. It’s a fun way for me to refine my thought process.
