Here are my Thursday Thoughts, a short list of the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.

What I Played:

Dave the Diver

I would describe Dave the Diver as a mashup of Terraria and Cooking Mama. It’s a great combination of my favorite game genres.

During the day, you dive into the mysterious Deep Blue Hole to explore its wonders, catch fish, and scavenge for items. At night, you run a sushi restaurant with the spoils from that day’s dive.

I love the restaurant part of this game. You set a menu before each dinner shift. There’s a science and an art to this. You want to cook enough food to meet your customers needs without wasting any ingredients. There’s personnel management with hiring and training help. You even have to manage a social media account to gain popularity and prestige.

Hat tip to Lynn Cherny for recommending this game. Please check out her newsletter, Things I Think Are Awesome. It’s a great monthly deep dive into AI developments.

What I Bought:

Keychron V3 Keyboard with Brown Switches

I was having trouble with the space bar and “s” key on the keyboard in my home office. I had to press really hard for the stroke to register. So I decided to get rid of it and purchase a new one. I ended up getting the Keychron V3 after reading and watching many reviews.

I have been using it for a few weeks now and have no complaints. Typing on it feels smooth. The brown switches have the clicky feel of a mechanical keyboard without being too loud.

What I Wrote:

Optimizing the Axie Infinity Garuda Shrine

I published my first non-newsletter post in about a year!

Axie Infinity, a web3 game, is gearing up for a big year with the release of parts evolution. This update turns the game into something of a RPG game with progression rather than card game played to earn money.

The update introduces new mechanics such as Fortune Slips and Lucky Pouches. This post comes out of my curiosity about the best way to earn and spend Fortune Slips.
