Thursday Thoughts - 05/12/2022

In this short newsletter, I share the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.

Sorry for missing last week’s thoughts. I just moved to a new house and was overwhelmed with everything. There were boxes everywhere with half the renovations still to be completed. It still doesn’t feel like home yet but it’s getting there.

What I’ve Read:

Speaker Placement Tips: How many do I need and where to put them?

I am buying a new TV and sound system as a part of the move. This proved to be a more complicated task than I anticipated. There’s so many different choices across various price points. For example, LED vs OLED TV? And soundbar or AV receiver with speakers? If you go with an AV receiver, how many speakers do you need? Also, where should the speakers be placed?

I found the article above particularly useful for the last two questions.

In case anyone is curious, I decided on a 77 inch Sony A80J OLED TV. I am pairing the TV with a 2 channel speaker system. I will be using my old AV receiver, a Yamaha RX-V671, with the ELAC Debut 6.2 bookshelf speakers.

What I Bought:

Smart Design Premium Cabinet Storage Shelf Rack

My wife and I bought this at Costco last weekend and it’s been a game changer. This rack allows us to separate the bowls and plates into their own stacks. So we can now grab a plate without lifting all the smaller plates above it. The racks are definitely worth the money.

What I’m Pondering:

“Choose what to add to a blank slate, not what to keep from a full plate.”
