Thursday Thoughts - 02/17/2022

In this short newsletter, I share the most interesting things that I’ve read, heard, and/or watched over the past week.

What I’ve Read:

How to Read a Book a Week | Harvard Business Review

This is a great article with practical advice on how to read nonfiction books. I’m used to reading books cover to cover, so it will take practice to implement this technique. My favorite insight is going through the table of contents after finishing the book to review the main ideas.

This method reminds me of something Derek Sivers either wrote or said in a podcast. To paraphrase, he said that you don’t need to read the stories and examples if you trust the author. You can go straight to the advice and skip the rest.

What I’ve Watched:

Nintendo Direct - 2/9/2022

Nintendo Direct is a presentation by Nintendo that outlines the latest games and news from the video game developer.

The latest Nintendo Direct was released last week. My favorite announcement was the new DLC race courses for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. My friends and I played a ton of Mario Kart on the Switch before Smash Bros Ultimate was released. I am excited to dust off Shy Guy and bring him to the new tracks.

What I’m Revisiting:

“Your 1st blog post will be bad, but your 1000th will be great.

Your 1st workout will be weak, but your 1000th will be strong.

Your 1st meditation will be scattered, but your 1000th will be focused.

Put in your reps.”

James Clear

The quote comes from James Clear’s newsletter, 3-2-1. I came across it again through my Readwise daily review. This is timely advice as I am putting in the reps to build a great newsletter of my own.
