Leon's List - 2023 Week 9

Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.

Taylor Heinicke (QB - ATL)

Arthur Smith was hesitant to name his starting quarterback today when pressed by reporters. He said he will give an update on Wednesday. This almost always means that the starter is getting benched.

Taylor Heinicke threw for 1859 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in 9 starts last year. Heinicke is not afraid to sling the ball up and down the field. He has some great weapons to work with like Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts.

Antonio Gibson (RB - WAS)

ESPN reported last week that the Washington Commanders were looking to trade their players if they lost Sunday’s game against the Eagles. Well… they lost, so I’m expecting a fire sale.

Antonio Gibson is a great pass catching running back and could see increased fantasy production on a new team.

Brandin Cooks (WR - DAL)

Brandin Cooks is warming up after a slow start to the season. He scored more than 12 fantasy points in his last two games. If teams start doubling CeeDee Lamb, Cooks will be one of the guys that Dak Prescott will be looking for.

Trey McBride (TE - ARI)

Trey McBride is making the most of his opportunities as the starting tight end for the Cardinals. He was targeted 14(!) times in Week 8. This trend could continue as Zach Ertz is on IR for at least three more games.

The Cardinals have decided to bench Josh Dobbs for Clayton Tune. This leaves a bit of caution with this McBride, as we’ve yet to see if Tune can actually play football.

David Njoku (TE - CLE)

David Njoku has seen 17 targets in his last two games. He seems to actually play better with PJ Walker at quarterback. Maybe Walker uses Njoku as a safety valve more than Deshaun Watson. Either way, I think Njoku will be a solid pickup for anyone with a bye in the TE spot.
