Leon's List - 2022 Week 2

Leon’s List is a weekly post about waiver wire players I’m keeping an eye on.

We skipped from Week 0 to Week 2 because I couldn’t count. Leon’s List considers players to pick up for the coming week, so it should reference the week ahead and not the one before. It’s fixed now and I should have the right weeks going forward. With that out of the way, let’s recap last week’s players.

Last Week’s Players

Last week’s picks were duds. None of these players scored more than 3 fantasy points. Thankfully no one took my advice.

KJ Osborn (WR - MIN)

  • 2.9 fantasy points
  • 3 catches, 14 receiving yards

The Vikings took control of this game early and never looked back. They were up 17 to 0 against the Green Bay Packers at halftime. It seemed like the Vikings were content to just run the clock out and let their defense do its thing against Aaron Rodgers.

KJ Osborn was in 68% of the offensive snaps on Sunday. This is more than any of the TEs. It looks like the Vikings are going with a healthy dose of 3 WR sets this season. I expect Osborn to get more looks his way and convert those opportunities into fantasy points.

Wan’Dale Robinson (WR - NYG)

  • 1.0 fantasy points
  • 1 catch, 5 receiving yards

Wan’Dale Robinson left the game in the 2nd quarter and did not return. It appears that the injury was minor and that he could have returned if absolutely needed. Richie James Jr. filled in with 10.15 fantasy points, going for 5 catches and 59 yards.

Jaylen Warren (RB - PIT)

  • 0.7 fantasy points
  • 3 rushes, 7 rushing yards

Jaylen Warren took over when Najee Harris was on the sidelines with a foot injury. The latest reports are that the injury is not serious. Harris might be able to start in Week 2. If not, Warren gets a significant boost as RB1 and is worth a pick up.

This Week’s list

Taysom Hill (QB, TE - NO)

It looks like all this talk about Taysom Hill just being just a TE is bullshit. Hill lined up under center on multiple plays in Week 1. He busted one run for 55 yards and another for a 11 yard rushing touchdown.

The tight end position is a gamble if you don’t have top tier TEs like Travis Kelce and Darren Waller. So I don’t mind betting on someone who has shown he can explode for long runs when given the opportunity.

Rex Burkhead (RB - HOU)

Rex Burkhead outsnapped Dameon Pierce by 30 snaps on Sunday. He provided 9.5 fantasy points with 40 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards and 5 catches. I don’t expect him to get more playing time than Pierce for long. But I would ride his high usage rate in the short term.

Curtis Samuel (WR - WAS)

Everyone probably has their eyes on rookie wide receiver Jahan Dotson on the Washington Commanders. He had 2 touchdown and 40 yards off 3 catches against the Jaguars.

However, I favor the veteran Curtis Samuel on the same team. I like the volume. He led the team with 11 targets. He caught 8 of those passes for 55 yards and 1 touchdown. He also rushed 4 times for 17 yards.

Cade York (K - CLE)

Cade York was the only kicker drafted this year. He was taken in the 4th round by the Cleveland Browns. The franchise kicker was worth the pick as he was perfect against the Carolina Panthers. York made 4 field goals and 2 extra points, including a 58 yard FG to seal the game. I expect Cleveland to struggle to find the end zone under Jacoby Brissett. Therefore, a lot more FG kicks should be coming for York.

Best Thing I Saw This Week

I apologize to Tyler and Shawn for this pick. But the best thing I saw this week is this Justin Fields bomb to Dante Pettis. Fields is able to run away from the pass rush and chuck this cross field beauty to a wide open Pettis.
